1974 Datsun 260Z now 1974 Datsun 260ZR RB25DET hybrid. Was sitting in the driveway about to jump the Fairlady so she could have her garage back when I decided to grab the camera and take the first film of the car actually running.

Its not much, but its stable and it sounds good. The car is very quick. Im not convinced its as fast as the L28et I built pushing 18psi of boost, but its way quick enough to get in a ton of trouble.

  • Ive been talking to Mckinny motorsports about the mounts and such for my rb30 swap to my 78 Z. did you get their oil pan as well?

  • @AcomsRazor1776 Continued... then they decide to go the sr20 route, which the KA24 is way better than an sr20. and way cheaper too. When people want me to work on their car, i charge a good amount. so if i was to take my 240sx to a shop to do all of that, it would have probably been 20,000 by now.

  • @AcomsRazor1776 2000 if you pay someone to do it for you. fabricating is not that expensive if you DIY. even if you cant, it will be less than 1000 if you give all the measurements to a welder. The reason why people are so afraid of swapping these motors in is because they think its an insane amount of money. i have a 89 240sx with an rb25 making 450whp, and the total is about $6-7k including the car. Now people freak out when they find out that soldering 6 wires to convert the harness is $500

  • @bohdanko90 (continued) for 260s and 280s you will need to do some heavy cat hump bashing to get the transmission to fit. did I mention you'll need heavier springs to compensate for the 100 plus lbs you've added to the whole car and much of the weight sits forward and DOES upset the weight balance. you are not going to do a GOOD RB swap without a good 1500 to 2000 worth of custom parts and work done not counting the engine tyranny ecu and wiring harness.

  • @bohdanko90 "what are you talking about clearance issues? " Obviously you have never done one then. RB's have turbo clearence issues with the steering shaft. VERY FEW right hand drive s30's exist in the states and last I checked all RB turbo's are situated on the left side where the steering shaft is located. On RB26's its even worse. RB25's have fewer oil pan clearence issues with the cross member but RB26's require a customized oil pan transmissions for RB's are stupid big.

  • @AcomsRazor1776 what are you talking about clearance issues? what are you talking about putting an RB in a civic?

the car comes with a 6 in-line for fuck sakes. you need mounts and drive shaft and other stuff that a person that can turn a screw driver can do.

Putting the RB in a 240sx has some clerance issues, and not even. its also a smaller engine bay car.

  • wat did this cost to do?

  • @AcomsRazor1776 McKinney Motorsports sells pretty much everything you need for the swap, from the mounts to the driveshaft and throttle cables. There's also places you can send a 280Z's harness to for a plug and play RB swap. McKinney does it for S13/14's, maybe a S30 too? Its entirely realistic to do the complete swap for under $6000, assuming your a competent mechanic. That's for a completely stock swap obviously, without the bodywork on such an old chassis, and performance parts.

  • thats susd as, did you have to cut abck the firewall ta get in there? mustve been a hell of a job man. nice

  • @88Zboy I hope you enjoy it. Putting that much work and money into something like that really makes you sweat right before it's done. Me Personally I'm going the cheap and easy route, just a tuned up LT1 with T56 and an LSD R200.
