  • @qlindsay

    the dx7?

  • The playing is a little dark for my tase, but holy shit that's some good programming. I picked up a DX7 yesterday and can't wait to get into working with it.

  • A lady had one of these on her table when I was making a delivery and asked if I wanted it.

  • @SunLickTree The DX7 does not employ subtractive synthesis like a minimoog or odyssey. Instead it uses Frequency Modulation (FM) synthesis. this uses "ops" or, operators which modulate one another in different algorithms. The DX7 happens to have 6 of these operators.

  • 07:42____!!

  • The DX7 is the greatest pure synth of ALLTIME. I remember when the M1 and D50 came out and everyone was saying they were much better than a DX7. I didnt agree. They werent PURE SYNTHS. They relied on multi-layere samples and effects to make you think they were better. When you listen to the pure sound of a MK 1 DX7 you are hearing the best there is. Then when you add effects and chorus eq. It blows everything else away.

Robert Pakers 100% DX7 is a great example of this on this site. Drums even.

  • how many oscs does this have?

  • @gridsleep DX7 2 D or FD is a good way to go. I had an FD, sold it, missed it and found a DX5 which I -had- to buy because I'd never seen one and it was *perfect*! Not much in it by way of sound or function though...

  • DX7 4 EVER!! WcoG rules!!

  • 8:57 sounds enormous. For those that think digital synths have to sound "thin and tinny". That is a powerful bass sound that is warm and organic even over Youtube. I saw one of these for sale in a local music store for $400 just the other day. REALLY tempted to pick it up!
