Perimenopause also referred to as pre-menopause or early menopause is the length of time before and one year after the final menstrual period, during which ovarian hormonal patterns change. The average age at which irregular cycles develop is approximately age 47 but in many cases can start as early as 35 years old. Like menopause, perimenopause is a normal part of a woman's life cycle. Generally, the ages at which your mother and older sisters began menopause and perimenopause are a good indication of when you might expect to start experiencing the symptoms of being premenopausal. If you smoke, it is likely that you will start perimenopause a year or two earlier than you would have if you didnt smoke.

The length pre menopause varies for each woman, starting either just a few months before menopause or even several years before being menopausal. Women can experience many of the same signs of menopause and can find relief with bioidentical hormone therapy.

  • I'm 45 I just started my 2nd Aunt Martha Visit for this Month... The 1st lasted Only 3 Days which I usually go 4 Stop for 1 day then 1-2 days more. I was walking around in my House n got a Splitting Headache out of nowhere went to the Bathroom & found Aunt Martha AGAIN. 17 days later after her 1st Visit. She usually Waits 21days (Atleast the last 2-3 ? Yrs I thk she's been Waiting)

Called the Dr said this is normal. But if anything else happens or I get worried for whatever reason to go see him

  • I suspected I was in perimenopause when I started gaining weight in my stomach and my periods starting changing. I'd prefer to avoid medication for perimenopause. As long as I exercise regularly, I feel fine and eating more dairy like low-fat yogurt has help me lose weight from my stomach.
