I've got a '80 Commuta-Car similar to the City-car in this video. I'd be interested in also figuring out some kind of regenerative braking too.

Would like to add that if you removed the dc motor and put a three phase motor, a inverter that would power a vfd, just like the guy with the electric quad cycle. this would give you more prefomance, and real regen brakeing. if you have the terrell rear end a 56c motor will bolt up to the diff. and for even more speed, replace the diff ax bearings, and lube with magna lube. the energy saver grease. great little cars of the period, and unlike the chevy they wont keep you all nite rusting.

love it.

This gentleman does't know what is regenerative braking. With the alternator just wasting energy that could be use to go a few mile more.
''The faster I go , the more I put in to the batteries .''
- hahahahah - he realy doesen't knew what regen is !!

thanks for posting this.

how can an electric vehicle get mpg when electric is not a fluid. ????//

Because the kw/h content of gasoline can be compared to a kw/h of electric energy.
If we said the EV uses 200wh/mi most people wouldn't have a clue how that compares to mpg!

~ 33.7 kilowatt hours per gallon gas... so 200MPG mean 33.7 kilowatt hours of electricity (or joule seconds) per 200 miles..

@danwat1234 Which works out to be168 wh/mi
