what, in the same dustbin with russell brand? personally i can't think of anyone as shite as him. except lenny henry perhaps.

  • @norristerse Both Gervais and Larry belong in that dustbin.

  • @dutchgoing

brand seems more like a hyperactive nine year old than a comedian. and jimmy carr's appearance certainly does have an unsettling "nonce-ness" about it!

  • @norristerse If you go to RB links on YT his fans will yack on about how clever and intelligent he is. I don't mind if people like his stand-up act but he can't act and his chat show appearances are wall to wall hippy gobshite. I think humankind is actually evolving backwards. We certainly seem to have a lot of really mediocre comedy talent these days, even one who looks like a a sex offender in the form of Jimmy Carr. Fucksake! lol An old episode of 'Friends' seems like top-end comedy.

  • @dutchgoing

i got that impression! to each their own. although i can't even think of a comedian i'd rank alongside russell brand for sheer loathsomeness.

  • @norristerse No I haven't seen it but will have a look for it. I'm not a fan you may have guessed.....

  • @dutchgoing

i'll consider myself warned! i imagine you enjoyed ricky gervais' extreme discomfort during the gary shandling interview (if you've seen it?).

  • @norristerse Umm well I suggest you Google WW before spending any effort in watching it. Dreadful, and I was a big Woody Allen fan at one time. David's tense improvs have a habit of descending into nastiness or everybody screaming 'Meshuga Meshuga !' at the same time which isn't funny & a cop out. Partridge actually gives me physical pain because it is so well observed, disturbingly funny. Watching Gervais licking David's bottom in the name of comedy was pretty horrible to watch really.

  • @dutchgoing

i never saw "whatever works" but i think larry david uses a similar method to steve coogan, where a situation is partly improvised by the cast before being solidified into a script. same with partridge. still, it's a matter of personal taste as to whether it works. i've never worked in an office myself, but then again you don't meet a dj with the largest listenership in the north norfolk area every day either!

  • @norristerse On a good day I can take Larry David, but Curb needs a script. His performance in 'Whatever Works' completely turned me off, but then he's playing a character & he isn't an actor, why not hire an actor? The justification given for 'The Office' being funny is that one has to work in an office to get it. Sorry not good enough. I found Alan Partridge such a telling creation that I could hardly watch it as it was so sharply and cleverly created. I have known such people indeed. Genius!
