From the album "Joni Sings Songs by Victor Young & Songs by Frank Loesser "All The Things You Are" was composed by Jerome Kern, with lyrics written by Oscar Hammerstein II in 1939. Thanks to PhillySouth for his input on this description.
Joni James was capable of making beautiful sounds occasionally, but a number of her recordings (particularly "O Holy Night") feature some very mediocre singing - flatness, pitch problems, and very muddy scoops and drops in her vocal production. One obvious reason for this is that Joni's vocal range was most obviously a high soprano, and many of the keys that she chose were simply too low for her. It's odd that her husband (and frequent arranger) Tony Acquaviva didn't address this problem!
While I respect the work this lady put into her career, there's an imbalance when an overwhelming vocal talent like, say, Rita Moss fades into the shadows while... well, those MGM marketing dollars certainly didn't hurt, right Ms. Babbo?
Don't take it from me folks, listen for yourself.
