Altan is the most exciting Irish Folk Band. On Island Angel, the Donegal sextet blazes through the instrumental medleys of reels, jigs, strathspeys and mazurkas with a reckless abandon. Not content to merely play the dizzying melodies at demanding tempos, all six musicians seem to lean into the rhythms with an urgency that's thrilling to hear. When the music slows down for a slow Gaelic song by Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh, the contrast with the blistering tunes only heightens the drama of her gorgeous, wistful soprano.

  • The middle tune is spelled incorrectly,it should be " Ingonish " named after a village on Cape Breton Island

  • This is a top-class band of awesome skill. I only wish they needed another bass player... :-)

  • I don't know where they're from but you gotta admit that this song is awesome!! I really love this band's music and wonder why this video doesn't have any more comments and only 1 like. Oh, well! At least I gave the video my thums-up.

    Thanks for posting this!

  • They are not from Dublin, they are from Donegal
