  • Just to illustrate the point, any one of Hank sr.'s "lesser songs",what might have been considered "filler" back then by his own high standards, Those that didn't make the top 20 or so, are great songs nonetheless. Lots of inspired talent in each of them, typically a much higher level of inspiration and talented performance than todays "country" #1 hits by comparison. And he could perform them live on radio with nothing but a guitar a booth and a mike. All thats needed is talent.

  • I couldn't agree more. Man besides george straight and VERY few.alan jackson...I do like josh turner i'll give him credit he can sing and he is old school. But man this stuff now is just rediculous....it all sounds the same and its GARBAGE...half of em are homosexual with there tight jeans and UGH makes me sick! IF they only had HALF the talent willie, waylon, the possom, jim reeves, don williams, ernest tub....man u can go on and on.....music is dead and gone!

  • Here's a classic example of Harlan Howard's "Three chords and the truth". The guitar backup is all that a classic like this needs.

"Mostlyrightous" is spot-on in his assessment of today's so-called "country" singers. The crap that passes for country music is rightfully scorned in "Murder On Music Row". Like it says, ol' Hank wouldn't stand a chance on being played on today's so-called country radio. I love this kind of pickin' n' grinnin'! :-)

  • You know all the talent is dead and gone...some still living. I'm 25 but im from the old school and raised that way. I dont get what todays young society gets with this bullcrap they call country.....i mean obviously they have no taste in music, I just dont get it. The only ones I like today is josh turner, alan jackson, and of course george straight, but he's from the old school..alabama they are retired...man music is gone! I wanna keep stuff like this alive! thanks for the comment!

  • Excellent performance. All a great song ever needs is a guitar, and a singer to bring the tune to life. Many of todays country "artists" cant play a guitar, couldnt compose even a simple 3 chord song, couldnt saddle a horse, and would be lost without a million dollar studio and computers to help them hit the notes in key. I strongly suspect some of them of faking the southern drawl as well!

  • oh i guarantee u they are. Fake names as well. Country music is long gone. This crap today and just junk and i cant stand it.

  • I dont know if you already done it or not but if you did a cover of Sing Me Back Home-Merle Haggard that would be Awesome!

  • Great Cover man

  • Very good job it is a great song.

    LorraineG.

  • A pop song can be very good and memorable despite being superficial and trite. A hard rock song can be great and memorable even if it isnt ones cup of tea.

Even "rap" at least dosent make much effort to pretend to be something else. I cant stand rap but it isnt near as phony as "new country" Reggae, calypso, classical etc.... They all have their great songs and writers. I guess in order to sell more, the "country" of today tries to incorporate a lot of styles, but the result is so lame.

  • What really gets my goat is the shameless name dropping these new "country" artists do all the time during interviews and such. As if their agent as instructed them to make a few references to George Jones or Merle Haggard in order to imply that the new crap is a natural evolution of a long line of great songs. This new country isnt country in the least but a godawful mix of various styles. Best described as "pop" but really not even a really good pop song either!
