The old favourite from 1965 - Windmill in Old Amsterdam (I saw a mouse, where? There on the stair, right there!). Performed by the popular singer Ronnie Hilton, this song was released in 1965.
This is a re-release on the "Surprise Surprise" label, a childrens division of "Music for Pleasure", which was itself a division of EMI! The B side features a really nice version of the Burl Ives hit, "The Ugly Bug Ball" which I may post soon.

I've brought in yet another turntable to experiment with recording records for Youtube and this time I think it's going to stay. It is a Goldring Lenco GL72, fitted with an Ortofon LM10 cartridge. It was given to me by my great uncle in 1990. It has variable speeds from 16 to over 80rpm so is perfect for playing all my ancient records! It's fed via a pre amplifier into my soundcard and the video is recorded simultaneously.

  • Look what you've done now...Honestly...I'm filling up here!

    My Very First Record!

Neil...You have now reached 'Legend' status with me!

I actually made a video of my copy of this splendid old record on one of the red HF42's last week, but never posted it.

Love your GL72...Very Nice indeed...Getting quite rare now...I've not seen one anywhere for ages!

I think I'll dedicate my copy to you...You deserve it!! :)

  • @GarrardAT6 Well thank you very much! It's been one of my favourites for years - in fact since the Ed Stewart / Tony Blackburn Junior Choice days! I bought it a few weeks ago from Music & video Exchange in Birmingham for the princely sum of 10p!

I've just given the GL72 a quick service and it's running OK, but really needs a new idler and the motor is a little noisy despite a strip and relubrication, but for Youtube videos it's ideal! I like your GL85 - I've not seen one before.

    Cheers! Neil.

  • That is SOOOO magical! I actually have a house mouse! He's cute but only comes out when he thinks I am not around. Glorious player, Neil!! I loved this in every way!! XO

  • @sideshowtink Hi Tink, I'm pleased you love this song as much as I do! I hope your house mouse doesn't get tempted to nibble on any of your record sleeves!

  • Couldn't resist singing along to this.I loved all the old novelty records-Tubby the tuba, Nellie The Elephant.Hole in the Ground etc. Bring back Junior Choice with Ed 'Stewpot', Stewart'!!!. Can you remember what the theme tune to that was.?

  • @spannerworks1 Hi Richard,

Yes I've booked up for the Al Bowlly event - I've just got to finalise transport - train vs. car (train is definitely cheaper!).

    Warm Regards, Neil.

Hi and I am going on the 16 April to Al Bowlly - are you ?

Mojoman is joining me as well.

    Warm regards

    Richard

  • @spannerworks1 Richard,

Thanks so much for your comments - I'm really pleased you liked it. The turntable is certainly here to stay. I've just serviced it and although it would benefit from a few bits being renewed it sounds great for Youtube music uploading!

Are you still going to the Al Bowlly walk next month?

    Warm Regards, Neil.
