You've got a great voice, but i think part of this song is about the flow of Jeff's voice. I think it would be MUCH better received if you less choppy with you your transitions between lines.

@SigOne1One thanks, I appreciate this articulated response to my cover. I'll append the video info accordingly after, but, I just want to stress this idea. I've gotten a good amount of comments regarding my not attempting to sing this song to within a hair of Jeff's likeness. This is a cover and means something different in the translation between him singing it and my rendition of his original. It's not about just playing it different, it's about sharing what I hear in his song.

You have done what I think most people should. Covers are covers for a reason. Not much point imitating the original because then you just get compaired to it constantly. The elements that you have added to the song are great. You haven't just changed the vocal structure but also the strumming pattern and tempo.

Interesting spin on a great song, the true definition of a cover in my opinion.

Overall it is a very abrasive and different cover, so you really need to expect some criticism. This is one of Neutral Milk Hotel's most cherished songs, and you'd have to be a musical god to pull off what you just tried to do to it. So don't feel too bad about the harsh comments.

People are pretty bad at giving CONSTRUCTIVE criticism on here. Either they like it or they insult you. Pathetic.

Anyway, it seems like you're trying a bit too hard to do things your voice isn't quite ready for. You're putting a lot of strain on your voice only to wind up going flat a good percentage of the time and just hitting blatant wrong notes.

I am not a big "everything has to be perfect or it sucks" person, but just work on your actual voice a little more. I'm running out of room...
