I think of this movie as John Wayne's greatest Western. It ages well, and seems serious and believable. The casting is perfect and the characters are memorable. Of course, it's one of the saddest Westerns ever, also. I know that "The Searchers" gets a lot of acclaim, but I pick this as Duke's best Western, and the character he portrays, Tom Donophin, as one of the great heroes of cinema.

Good song and great film.

I still love good westerns -- just don't find too many of them anymore. This was one of the best.

The Duke gets the job done every time...even with his eyes closed.

@JD00014 The people who contracted Gene Pitney for the song simply released the movie without waiting for the song. Obviously, an oversight by the movie producers.

@bookmouse770 Haha. Jimmy was 6 3 with blue eyes... but honestly I have no idea who I would choose given the opportunity. Both of them are great
@marktayloruk This is the price of dignity. Tometimes is better lose and be true. The acts of Tom Doniphon are increibles. I never see anybody do for a woman that Tom Doniphon do for Halley. This is the purity of Doniphon. He is increible. One of the best films of History. Sorry for my bad english.
