From KETC's Facing the Mortgage Crisis special on July 15, 2008: What is the ripple effect on our community? An increasing number of foreclosures can cause a ripple effect, particularly on school districts. Fewer occupied homes means fewer taxes available for schools. Having just one foreclosure on a block can increase crime and vandalism—making the city an undesirable place to live. If a city is tainted with a huge foreclosure crisis, there will be a lasting impact that affects everybody.
