Labor groups, environmentalists, and consumer rights backers joined forces at a rally in Fremont, California in support of NUMMI auto plant workers and the UAW's announced national boycott of Toyota dealerships. The United Auto Workers union is seeking to pressure the Japanese automaker into reversing its decision to close the NUMMI plant -- a closure that's scheduled to happen March 31, 2010, resulting in the loss of 4,700 auto assembly jobs. Speakers at the rally included: Art Pulaski of the California Labor Federation, UAW Vice President Bob King, California State Treasurer Bill Lockyer, and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka.
