London Road Fire Station is extraordinary because, as a Grade II* Listed Building in 1974, ones that's been on the At Risk Register since 1998, it has stood neglected in the City Centre of Manchester for twenty seven years.

In 1902 it was called "the finest fire station in this round world" by Fire Magazine. Today it could be an exceptional building and grand design in a sympathetic redevelopment that would be a hub of Manchester life.

Yet this building cannot accessed by the public and some wonder if it ever will. This neglected icon becomes hauntingly unreachable as it deteriorates further under its ownership by Britannia Hotels Group since 1986.

Signed. It's beguiled me for year, that building! In an ideal world Britannia Hotel Group would have been prosecuted for their shameful and destructive behaviour. A few more years and it'll start to resemble Sasha's!
