Guide Shoes are similar in function to automobile tires. They provide a safe and smooth ride. As time
passes, guide shoes like tires wear and eventually must be replaced. What happens when your tire goes flat? You repair it right? What if you don't have a spare or don't have the time? Well, you get out your trusty old can of Fix a Flat and that will be enough to get you home. The same goes for guide shoes. The building wants the elevator fixed now! You aren't given time or you just don't have that spare tire available. Here's the quick fix.......................

  • Should be preventive, not reactive maintenance ;)

You are absolutely correct. That is why I call this a quick fix. Not all elevators wear equally and that is for a number of reasons. Under normal maintenance a skilled mechanic will pick this up and remedy before it becomes a shutdown. A skilled mechanic also knows how to provide service quickly without disruption in service.

  • LMAO. Love the rag to take up the slop! What you didn't have an inch worth or leather washers in your fiber box ? :-) Babbitt shoes or nylon?
