FedEx has been mis-using this classification to strong-arm its people for decades. I don' care which company gets reclassified, but let both operate under the same rules.

@DEEPGNOSTIC: You should be asking why should UPS be subject to the federal labor laws that it is. Not why shouldn't everyone else be subject to the same cost-increasing, anachronistic laws as UPS.

fed ex aka federal express (overnight air the original company) is different from fed ex-ground(formerly RPS) , fed ex-freight , fed ex-custom critical...etc.
this split allows them to use multiple systems. fed ex ground and fed ex custom critical are contracted employment, or owner operator. another way around the union and law.
furthermore you cant generalize your shipping experience, it is like any other service provider, careless people do hurt the system! whether it is ups or fedex...
