MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (Larry Davis) -- A woman is in critical condition after fire engulfs a Middletown apartment Wednesday morning.

The woman called 911 to report the fire at her apartment on Sutphin Street just after 6 a.m. When firefighters got there, they had to get through heavy smoke and flames to get to her. They found her unresponsive upstairs. She was rushed to Atrium Medical Center where she was resuscitated. A medical helicopter then flew her to Miami Valley hospital. We're told she has burns on 30 to 40 percent of her body.

Another woman and a five-year-old girl escaped on their own. Both of them went to the hospital to get checked out.

Firefighters and the state Fire Marshal's office are looking into what started that fire.
