Educational Video for the National Oil Shale Association examining the benefits of America's oil shale development. Energy is the life blood of our society and America needs to consider all forms of alternative energy, including wind, solar, hydroelectric, biofuels, as well as oil shale. Executive Producer Glenn Vawter, Producer Dave Lindsay, Production Facility Avalanche Studios in Salt Lake City, Utah.
It's ours. We get the $ when we sell it to ourselves. Of course not the profits, but the jobs, the economic engine etc. Plus we could never be 'cut off' which means we are almost a 'Super Power' again. It seems way more socially responsable than buying it from middle east dictators.
Lets use the shale to transition to NatGas, which is also ours, cleaner, cheaper, easier and enough of it around to last 100 years (at least). It's like Boone's idea; why in God's name didn't we start yesterday!?

@abeldave66 It is pretty simple, even if Middle Eastern Oil costs 5-10 dollars per barrel, they will charge you 100 if that is the present market price. Oil shale fuel barrel costs 10-20 so it is more expensive but still way under present market prices.

Eventhough oil shale is expensive to produce, the cost of other sources is rising as world demand for petroleum increases, and supplies become more costly. New technologies are expected to make oil shale competitive in the mid term. Time will tell if the global and national energy situation will make oil shale viable. This huge domestic resource cannot therefore be ignored.

These guys can't keep their story straight. Notice how they say it will cost more to produce than other fuels, but will lower our costs? They can't have it both ways.
They also say oil shale equals security, but they cannot produce it because the technologies are experimental and the costs are high. Some security!
Why should we trust these guys? We shouldn't. Oil shale is not the answer and never will be.
