@ChasBeauregarde Theres nothing organic or natural in the finnished music produced today. We use to have a term in the 80's for a music Album or single when it was TOOoo perfect. We called it OVER-produced. It referred to music that sounded fake, due to over jelious sound engineering. It usually also ment bands were unable to recreate that sound live. Which usually resulted in a loss of prestige/respect/suspicion of the artists talents. Today young people don't seem to care

@ChasBeauregarde Yeah, I know production tricks have always been around. Phil spector was the master of early studio production work with his WALL OF SOUND techniques used to create the famous Motown overdubbing echo sound, and the Beattles with Abbey Road's famous "studio 2" But the technology im talking about today is VASTLY different because its ALL digital. That means most of what you hear is not, and never was real, but computer generated. Anyone with a pc can do music it.

@boltonox We're on the same page as far the state of music today, only a nuance of difference in opinion.on technology. For example the Vocoder has been in existence in a less evolved undigital state since the 60s, but it was never used to aid or correct a singer's pitch and I think that's part of your point - the RELIANCE on technology as opposed to USING it as a tool. Thanks for the info about the Sony Madonna GaGa connection. It IS formula music at it's worse.
-
@ChasBeauregarde No i didn't mean to say technology ruined Pop music. What i meant was, the computer has made it POSSIBLE to create music WITHOUT the need for REAL musicians, and so today's music can ONLY EVER BE, a remake of old quality material, tweeked by a pay check sound engineer. As apposed to REAL music made by a group of REAL MUSICIANS. Computer sound engineers are not MUSICIANS. Neither are Rappers, Pop Tarts Bibo's, or Rave party DJ'S, boy or girl bands, etc, etc.

@ChasBeauregarde Yeah, i agree. Actually GaGa sounds like Madonna because that's a Sony formula sound created by their music engineers back in the 80's for Madonna. Its been polished up and modernized to sound contemporary, but the formula is pretty much the same as Madonna's was with Sony.

@boltonox Everything you here now in pop today is repackaged music from the 80's and 90s. The last original pop music to come out was hip hop and grunge. Nothing is original anymore. Put A GaGa song on and play it next to this. If you didn't know either of them you wouldn't be able to tell if it was written in 1980 or now, which is a complement to Blondie and an criticism of Lady GaGa
-
@boltonox I don't think it's the technology that ruined pop music - There's still a lot of talent out there but as record executives passed the baton to a younger generation - No major labels are willing for music to be experimental any more. Only what is safe predicatable and doesn't take risks.
