BBC Election 1992 exit poll

When Big Ben struck 10 pm on 9 April 1992, the BBC announced the result of their exit poll which showed that there would be a hung parliament.

Infamously, the exit poll was wrong and in reality the Conservatives won with a majority of 21.

@densaner77 well they changed their technique, in 2010 for the first time they interviewed people after they'd voted rather than before they'd voted so the polling was much more accurate

Modern exit polls are more accurate. In the last couple of elections sky/itv and the bbc have all pooled their resources. This means they can interview more people in more seats at less cost. Still it was a very unfortunate result given the exit poll!

@573W1E6R1FF1N A hung parliament was nearly 3 times more likely in 2010 as the Lib Dems had only 20 seats in 1992 & nearly 60 now.
