You guys are pathetic. Even I am black and I can tell that he made that comment not because of the guy's his race. It was because of his height.

Neither of them are racist. Stop being partisan hacks,
This crap right here is what Dubbya has done to this country only governing for his base.

i think its just cuz of height. i dont understand why the chick in the background is laughing though lol. what a groupie

Im surprised McCain didnt ask him if he drank grape soda, KFC or Popeyes, or asked him how is welfare treating ya. Im so glad I didnt vote for this guy.
-
I'm not saying this in support of McCain, because I personally will say that I did not vote for him, but... most of you are more racist than McCain by thinking his comment referred to the young man being black. I'm guessing McCain would have said this to a Caucasian man just the same if he was that tall. That is a typical thing you say to tall, young men.

he knows white kid cant
-
Well... Most black people can outplay a white person in basketball, i mean look at the pros! like 70% are black or anything BUT white. and that kid was like freakishly tall anyways so it was a reasonable question to ask.
-
lmfao!!!
he must have a good pair to ask a dumbass question like that

FUCK MCCAIn racist bitch ass
-
mccain is so fucking racist its no wonder why he lost. did he say that to every tall kid that asked a question? NO HE HAD TO ASK THE BLACK KID!
I would have hit him in the head with my mic.
and btw pointing out the fact that mccain is racist dosent make you racist.

thats like michael scott from the office...
he wanted stanley on his b-ball team just bc he was black
(and stanley wasn't that good, anyway)

Just because McCain didn't mean any harm by what he said, doesn't mean the exchange isn't revealing. In this day and age, the first thing out of your mouth when you meet a black man should never be "are you the basketball team?" And when he says no, your next response should certainly not be "well you should be." At a minimum, it shows he's old and out of touch. At worst, its subtle, yet thoughtless racism.
I think we're all racist to some degree. McCain needs to realize that it doesn't matter how tall this kid is, asking him if he's on the basketball team is not an appropriate conversation starter to a young black man in 2008. Why not ask him if he's on the chess team?

Dude, just be quiet. If the kid was 7 feet tall and white or Hispanic or Asian he be asked the exact same thing. This sounds like your problem, not anyone else's.

Does McCain ask every tall kid he meets if he's on the basketball team? Maybe... but I doubt it. My gut tells me it has to do with a combination of his height and his race. And I'm not saying that this makes him a bad person, just that he doesn't possess 21st century social skills.

It's a subtle thing. But who says racism can't be subtle.
