This video shows the interior Retracts mechanics of the fiber-glass Airwolf fuselage which is used for my RC-TEK Phantom 450-size heli.

This simple setup uses a long push-pull CF rod to transfer the throw of the Retracts Servo to the wheels.

The CF rod in the video is broken after a hard landing and a metal flybar is used to replace it.

  • Hi,

I can see you are using your gear switch fir the retracts, but can you tell me hot to set it up on the radio ???

  • It's quite easy to figure out which channel the gear switch controls. Just go to your EPA menu, one of the channels should have its arrow jump up and down as you toggle the switch. If none of the channels respond, you gotta change the gear/gyro settings, that setup page is accessible by pressing down the 'scrolldown' and 'select' buttons as you power on your DX7 Transmitter.

  • I am an amateur to this and have just bought a 2.4 ghz Century Airwolf. Is it possible to find servos that are compatible to it so the fixed wheels can be replaced with ones like your model?

  • Century should have a retracts kit for your heli. Ask for Retracts servo or Low Profile Servo from your local hobby shop and they will give you a range to choose from.

  • hello i need your help im looking to build an airwolf im getting a honey bee king 2 helli but need help in regards to getting a proper body for it and wheels that retract . ive seen a toy kit for it for 89 pound but it looks cheap and the wheels dont retract have you any advise please????

  • hi mate, all the airwolf fuselages for king2 that I've seen, do not have retractable wheels. So, you need to find a retracts system separately. You have to get rid of the 3 fixed wheels and cut 3 openings for the retractable wheels to pop out. Helihobby sells a "Retract system" by itself at usd58.50, but you have to modify it to make it fit into the king2 fuselage because the king2 fuselage is smaller.

  • sorry for this late reply, my workplace had "youtube" blocked and I kept forgetting to respond when at home. By default, the 401 uses the additional channel to set the gain via the transmitter menu. There is no gain pot, only limit and delay are available for manual adjust with a screwdriver. So, I don't think it will work if you disconnect the gain plug.

  • Hi I have the dx6i and ar6100 rx and a futaba gy401 gyro. Can I set it to permanent hh mode manually and use the 6th channel for retracts without switching back to rate mode?

  • Nice.

  • You can buy the retracts from Helihobby. The retracts in the video came with the Airwolf fuselage I bought. HeliDirect has the Airwolf Fuselage & Retracts set. :)
