i remember i once had an ipod photo 60gb. i still can't believe that my 160gb ipod classic (2009) model is thinner than the 20gb ipod 4th generation...

not at all. hard drives do not need to be perfectly pristine to function. I think you may be thinking of some microchips, which, to ensure perfect function, are assembled in clean rooms.

hmm im thinking of hacking an ipod HD into a HD speaker but Ill use the HD on my pc first, i can use another 30 gigs on my pc, ill make it into a HDD thumb drive

@wildenkujawa You can actually take the disc out, it's not just laying there, it's actually part of it.

what sorta interface does the ipod hard drive use? is it IDE as well?

Just curious - isn't the rule that once you expose the drive platters to...well...anything (including microscopic molecules) that it's completely destroyed?

I have no idea. I don't think so though... I thought I've seen people take them apart, then use them... the only reason I took this apart was because the HD was dead anyway.
