Nov. 16, 2009: Annenberg Research Seminar Speaker Series - Joe Saltzman
Join students and faculty for a presentation by Joe Saltzman, director of The Image of the Journalist in Popular Culture (IJPC), a project of the Norman Lear Center, and journalism professor at USC Annenberg. His topic: "The image of the gay journalist in popular culture: A brand new field of research for students and faculty alike." There has been virtually no research done on the image of the gay journalist or public relations practitioner in popular culture. For today's lecture, Joe Saltzman will discuss the potential for research in this field, and share his research on the image of the gay journalist in movies and television, fiction, comic books, and other aspects of popular culture. He will also show a 14-minute excerpt from the ground-breaking four-hour-and 42-minute three-disc set, "The Image of the Gay Journalist in Movies and Television, 1929 to 2009."
