All in aid of the Special Olympics Ireland, a world record attempt was held in the Fair Green in Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland on the 17th of May 2009. The title of the world record was the Largest Ever Ceile. Because of where the fundraiser was being held, it was decided that the Siege Of Ennis would be the dance that everybody would perform. :)

After some torrential rain, the clouds broke and a glimmer of sunshine came through, just giving enough time for the Kilfenora Ceili Band to tune up and play a few reels while the people of Clare tried for the world record.

The event was covered by Clare FM Radio who made regular broadcasts from the main stage throughout the day and also streamed video of the whole event live over their website.

Thanks to the thousands who showed up and braved the elements for a great cause.

  • EUROPOL REPORT: IMMIGRATION A MAJOR THREAT TO EUROPEANS

A European Police Office report has revealed that at least 900,000 illegal immigrants from 3rd World enter the EU every year & 350,000 legal visitors overstay their visas -and that Europe faces major criminal threats from this invasion force.

This massive influx has seen “European citizens and businesses exposed to systematic violence and corruption at the hands of organised crime groups, terrorist groups, and, street gangs"

    Europol 7/5/10

  • Were they dancing in a river? Looks like it was pretty wet there LOL

  • So did you gert the record?

  • Jes can rem. that day perfectly. The rain that fell was unreal.

  • WE WERE THERE! WOOOOHOO!

  • 10,000 IMMIGRANTS WORK IN IRELAND USING FALSE STUDENT VISAS

Bogus non-EU immigrants sign on as students then slip away to take up jobs. Others overstay their visas to allow them secure work by enrolling in fake courses every year to allow them continued access to Irish jobs.

    Irish Independent 12/2/10

(If they are here long enough they can stay for good)

This does not include immigrants here on real student visas or on legal work permits or here working illegally. How many 10s of 1000s is that?

  • Lovely video! I'm sharing it with my dance class here in the States - We're from the city that at last count still held the record (at the Dublin Irish Fest in Columbus, Ohio) and we love to see all of you dancing and having fun despite the rain! Brilliant!
