As the aircraft speed approaches to the sonic speed (331.4 m/sec), the spherical pressure waves which emitted around the aircraft due to its disturbance in the air will near to each other forming a very strong and concentrated pressure wave which is called the shock wave or the Mach wave. .

At the aircraft speed equals to the propagating speed of the pressure waves (the sonic speed) , the all pressure wave fronts will tangent to a plane that is perpendicular to the land forming a very high pressure force variation across this tangent plane which is called the the shock wave . .

And as the aircraft increases its speed more than the sonic speed (up to 1.2 mach), all the pressure wave fronts will lie within a cone which is called the cone mach wave and its apex is the aircraft itself.

  • @XJBAlpha How can you tell how far it traveled based on time? for one thing, it looks like the video was slowed down.

  • Man, it's sure not at 331.4m/s, see the video time, when passed about 2sec, the plane traveled about 150~250 meters...
