And by the way thanks for being there to help out the newbies

@drummerkingmike Good insight into this. This gives the lefties more to chew on.

I've always found that lefties starting on a right handed kit from day one, while they may get off too a slower start, eventually it becomes a real advantage to them and they end up with four totally dominant limbs. I have a few students like this, they have no weaker side and come up with some super creative stuff I would never think to play! Plenty of great lefties playing mirrored too though of course!

I understand what you are saying and I play crossed stick also. But from a lefties point of view if you set up right handed then you are still using the left hand on the hats the right hand on snare so you feet are what really change. I don't have the time to relearn what I have been doing for 30+ years so that is why I say if I had it to do over, but if a person is just starting to play i humbly say learn open handed giving them the best of two worlds. Sorry to hog your post I'm just wanted to

@drummstixx You make great points and I hope some of the lefties read these comments from left hand players before they decide.

Although playing left handed may be easier at first It can limit you in other ways later, like sitting in on open mike settings or jam sessions becauase to really be comfortable you would need to switch every thing around. If I had it to do over I would set up right handed and play open. but that is just my two cents

@drummstixx Those are certainly good points. I actually played open handed for over 6 months and still never got anywhere as comfortable or tight as I am playing cross handed. I'm not sure it helped my playing at all. I hated to commit any more time to the idea even though open handed playing has many advantages.

YEAH, but what if everything I do is left-handed, except batting (but throw left), mouse, joystick, guitar...I have been air-drumming and hitting things with sticks right-handed my whole life...I'm just a mess...

@flbchbm lol if you air drum right then try it right first. You will be awesome because both of your arms are comfortable taking the lead.
