  • As you tilt uke up on your shoulders, your right leg should be pushing against the mat to drive uke up with all your power eminating from you hara.

  • Sumimasen Sensei,

In the NNK Kata Guruma, should the movement of the leg be the left leg moving towards the right, instead of the other way? I am of the opinion that the left leg should move towards the right as this allows you to pivot yourself directly under Uke's CG.

But thank you for your posts!

    Respectfully,

    Cokiee

  • Actually you want to move the right leg towards the left as in the video. That starts the motion of the throw. Moving the left leg towards your right would be against the flow of the throw and you would be going against the drive of the right leg.

  • Sir,

i've been pondering about your statement, and would like to clarify something if you will allow me to indulge (:

you speak of the 'drive of the right leg'. Could you elaborate on that a little please? ( or is this not the right forum?)

  • Thank you for your reply! I do see what you mean, because it does seem like it makes sense to move your right towards your left as the 'flow' of the throw is to your left.

However, could i suggest that by shifting your left leg towards your right you are moving in such a fashion that makes uke 'easier' to lift?
