NADA acupuncture is a balancing and relaxing experience. It helps person access inner resources, in the manner of meditation and yoga. The NADA provider can offer profound relief without knowing any of the specific issues facing the client. These treatments are given on a wellness basis. No diagnosis is required. The NADA protocol is easily taught to any responsible care giver in 1-2 weeks. The protocol can also be taught on an apprenticeship basis during the actual crisis. This procedure is far less risky than ear piercing. Infection control can be easily maintained. A treatment can be repeated daily for optimal effort. A supply of acupuncture needles can be stockpiled. Medical sterilization can be used in appropriate settings.
This ear acupuncture protocol is known as the NADA protocol after the U.S. organization, National Acupuncture Detoxification Association, which began at Lincoln Hospital (Bronx, NY) in 1974, There are now independent NADA organizations in 20 different countries.

Body wisdom
Dr. Michael O. Smith, psychiatrist & acupuncturist "Body is a passive machine which requires proper cleaning and fuel. Later we learn that the body can be imbalanced and make itself sick. Emotions can be dangerous. Mental blockage and spiritual weakness seem ever more prevalent".
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a three thousand year old system of medicine. It is a comprehensive system of health care that offers patients treatment for illness and promotes optimum health and quality of life. Acupuncture's goal is to help the patient achieve balance. Symptoms are seen as the body-mind trying to get some attention and help.
"Qi"
Acupuncture and all Qi-flow therapies "help the body help itself." Some of us have come to appreciate the body's spontaneous healing potential.

Dr. Michael O. Smith, psychiatrist & acupuncturist says
"Acupuncture teaches us to relax from the inside out." This increased sense of calm and the quieting of symptoms that occurs as a result of the acupuncture treatment stimulates one' own "Qi"( one's inner energy) and brings us back into a more balanced state. As we become calmer inside, we become much more aware of over selves and others. From this quieter, inner place we can then make more careful choices in our reactions to life situations.

Wellness service
A stress reduction service can be set up anywhere or at disaster site. This service uses the 3-5 point ear acupuncture treatment developed at Lincoln Recovery Center New York known as the NADA Protocol. Needles remain in the ear for 45 minutes. Inserting the sterilized needles in the ear causes no to minimal discomfort. Daily treatment for the first few days is most beneficial. It is an adjunctive therapy not stand alone intervention. Ear acupuncture can be integrated within a comprehensive stress reduction intervention framework.
