Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)

"So schnell ein rauschend Wasser schießt", Aria (Tenor) from the cantata "Ach wie flüchtig, ach wie nichtig", BWV 26, mov. II

Lyrics for mov.II
------------------
German (original)
So schnell ein rauschend Wasser schießt,
So eilen unser Lebenstage.
Die Zeit vergeht, die Stunden eilen,
Wie sich die Tropfen plötzlich teilen,
Wenn alles in den Abgrund schießt.

English (translation)
As fast as rushing waters gush,
So hasten on our days of living.
The time doth pass, the hours hasten,
Just as the raindrops quickly break up
When all to the abyss doth rush.

  • ..das ist Peter Schreier :-)

Und: Doch, es ist sehr gut!

  • Are you sure it is Peter Schreier?! I thought it was Adalbert Kraus...

  • Actually, I believe it's Aldo Baldin.

  • Well, I know for sure this version is from Gächinger Kantorei Stuttgart / Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, directed by Helmuth Rilling.

And the only recording of BWV 26-2 under Rilling's direction had Adalbert Kraus as the performing Tenor. You guys can check it at bach-cantatas(dot)com

  • @rohrschalmey Adalbert Kraus!

  • Swinging Bach!

  • nee, das ist nicht peter schreier, sondern kurt equiluz!

  • As for aspirating, I'd like to hear it that fast with a different mechanism. Any one know of any other recordings where this is the case? There are those who might be able to accomplish this feat with connected clear articulation, but often the preciseness of the pitches suffer, and the end result would be less exciting. Slow it down about 5 clicks and it would work. Thoughts? Kraus was able to aspirate and stay 100% on the voice which is to be applauded.

  • @The30YearOldVirgin You ARE correct. It is Adalbert Kraus. I do not think Peter Schreier is better.....just different. Thank God for people who don't have to argue and compare who and what is better. Bach had to compose for what he had at his disposal.

  • nein, es ist eindeutig Adalbert Kraus

um hier mal alle zweifel auszuräumen !!!!!!!!!!!!!
