Satan and Adam (Sterling Magee and Adam Gussow, with Dave Laycock on drums) play an old torch song in a smoky juke joint in Bessemer, Alabama.

If you're interested in learning "Fever" as Gussow plays it, there's a video tutorial and tab sheet available at Modern Blues Harmonica:

  • Adam, did you ever consider doing this in 3rd? What are the advantages of 2nd?

Keep up the good work, dude

    Liam

  • 3rd postion would definitely be the default option in this. Since I overblow, and since I'm much more fluent in 2nd position, I found it easier this way. But you've got to hold down those pesky little thirds: avoid the 7 draw, the uninflected 3 draw, etc.

  • Goddamnit!!! you hit the sweet spot right there! do you have a lesson on this one??? this song is so freakin'good!

  • Yes, I've got a lesson at Modern Blues Harmonica, based around exactly what I play here. Google "Fever," "Gussow," and "tradebit"

  • Great groove! Love it- very soulful and right in the pocket.

I must admit I'm slightly disappointed that the video ends a bit abruptly.

  • Great! That means I've done my job as a blues instructor.

  • Is that because you can't get away with those notes if a tune's minor, but you can when it's major?

  • YEAH!!!!!! Little Walter would be proud!

  • hahahahaha

  • i want to learn the harmonica so i can play it in the future when im in the joint spending 5-to-10

  • Listening to this, I say you haven't lost much in the intervening decades, and neither has Satan. Beautiful.
