The water is just extremely polluted, causing you to go slower.

row row row ya boat, gently down the stream!

@JimDwyer You are getting older. Happens to all of us. And possibly you row less to pay for all that fancy new stuff.

hey jim i like the way you finish with with your legs and arms together at the release. I dont see this technique very often. I row on the thames in new london connecticut for conn college and that's the way our coach teaches us. it doesn't seem like any other school in NESCAC uses this method, but they sure do pull really hard.

Jim, what an awesome video.
I miss the Head of the Thames, it was a fun race.
be good, train hard. Dump the Hudson, get a Fluid, you will go even faster ;-)

@JimDwyer why can't you roww on it becaue of the dam, how does it effect rowing in any way
I have been getting new boats every two or three years. The hull is computer designed to be more hydrodynamic and new materials make the boat stiffer but I end up going slower every year! I can't figure ot why?!!

The dam raises the water level so it is suitable to row on. The Thames river is now a large ditch full of rocks with a trickle of water running through the middle of it! The old dam was put up every May and them taken down in October. The water leve rose and created a 10k stretch of river that was perfect for rowing and Head racing. The new dam gates malfunctioned so now there will be no fix until the lawsuit has been settled!

Thanks! BUT NO ONE has been able to row on the Thames River for the past six years because of a poorly designed eleven million dollar dam that DOES NOT WORK! Hatch Ltd. built the dam upside down and now is in litigation with the City of London. The lawsuit could take forever and I miss rowing on the river very much!!

Thanks I can't wait until spring to get back on the water. Springbank Dam is still in lidigation with no resolution in sight so I won't be rowing on the Thames River any time soon ) :

that 1k scull time is v. impressive. I can't help but think that it must have been with a bit of an assisting tide or tail wind or something. that is, unless you can comfortably manage sub 7 2ks...

Big tail wind!
