This was a 1989 package for Navy News This Week about VQ-3's transfer from the EC-130 Hercules propeller aircraft to the turbo propelled E6-A Hermes aircraft.
Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron THREE [VQ-3] aka the "Ironman" was a squadron at Naval Air Station Barbers Point, Hawaii ( Facility Barber's Pt.). The E6-A was an addition to the
squadron's TACAMO ( Take Charge and Move Out ) aircraft. Fleet Air Reconaissance Squadron Three. FAIRECONRON . Herc Hercs . Navy Broadcasting Service Fleet Support Detachment Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. NBS.
Produced/reported/editing JO1 Cathy Hines; videography was either Tony Ozoa or Scott Ginkens. NNTW.
I was a reel operator for this Squadron at the time this video was shot in Hawaii...I have a plaque as the final reel operator on the final mission on the EC130Q, and am a plank owner for the E6A too. NAS Barbers Point was a great place to live and work as a TACAMO Warrior for FAIRECONRON 3...Here's to all my fellow VQ3er's out there!

Back in the day. I launced the last E-6A out of Barber's Point headed to Tinker in Oklahoma. Very wicked aircraft and has lots of missions and it is good at them all. I loved my time in TACAMO (Take Charge And Move Out) is what it really stands for. We used to say Take a chair another movie's on but that was just a joke. It can be a waiting game while on deck waiting for a call to get out of there because there is a mission to be done or they don't want the aircraft there for securit
