Rev. Johnson recruits a new schoolteacher (Sherry Hursey) for the town, whom he appears to have romantic history with. All seems well when their flame is rekindled and she and Michaela hit it off as career women from the East. However, her beliefs about appropriate discipline come into question when students start coming to Dr. Mike with unusual injuries and Colleen and Brian admit that the injuries are from schoolroom discipline. The Reverend proposes and initially stands in the teacher's defense, but when the town calls a meeting to discuss her methods, the Reverend has a discussion with her about it and learns that she doesn't even want children, which forces him to break off the engagement. Though the town voted in support of her methods, she ends up leaving town when a harshly disciplined student retaliates and beats her up.

  • I thought that it was already established in the episode "Life and Death" that Bryan now slept in the barn. Holes, people, holes!

  • @BooPandah Lmao yeah, I know they had a lot of holes but still it's so much better than the CRAP on t.v. today you know?

  • DIDN'T BECKY'S MOTHER DIED AT SEASON 1 ???

  • AGES AGO ?!! That was 5 episodes ago Michaella ! xDD

  • The Lullaby Dr. Mike sang to Brian is the same Lullaby in the Movie that Jane Seymour did called "Yesterday's Children" such a pretty tune. I think it's an Irish lullaby.

  • @TheJezgurl I know. Besides, the students would never have mouthed off at the teacher or if they did, pa was waiting for them at home with a belt to hit on the butt with. Also I think just the humiliation of standing infront of a class, facing the corner was punishment in a big way. The ruler rap on the hands was big too. Hey, think of Farmer Boy in the little house series. That one boy was acting up in class all the time so Almanzo's pa let the teacher borrow the snake whip used on bulls.

  • Actually she would always wait until the anger passed before she would spank me. But so many people go overboard with discipline and take it to where they are beating their children.

  • I think that children do need a spanking on the tushy every so often if they are disobedient but that's it. I remember when I was bad while we were out of the house, Mom would say I would get a spanking at home. It was the long drive home, knowing that I was going to get spanked, was the fearful part. But mom would often times wait until her anger passed to spank me because she knew if she did it out of anger, she would do a lot more then spanking.

  • I adore the story the reverend tells at the end tho. Its beautiful.

  • @TheJezgurl Im not even a christian and i knew that :-P

  • @Skydancer1971 hahahaha love it.
