One Red Rose That I Mean - Captain Beefheart - cover by joe mink

'One Red Rose That I Mean', a solo guitar piece from the Captain Beefheart album "Lick My Decals Off Baby" was originally performed by Bill Harkleroad and in later concerts by (Jeff) Moris Tepper. Considering that I'm not either of those guys, i think this take came out ok. Its one of only two guitar songs i know how to play from beginning to end. 'Flavor bud living' is the other, to be posted soon.

A very very big thank you to Mark Steven Brooks for his notated transcription of this song and others which can be found on various beefheart websites. (there's no way i could have figured this out by ear). If anyone out there has transcribed 'evening bell', I would be very grateful to have that!

I was always amazed by Bill Harkleroad's comments on this material. He compared it to piling junk in a corner & then reproducing that exact same pile of junk over & over....

Maybe he had a different perspecive on it than the rest of us?

Never heard a bad version of this - anyone that goes to the trouble of learning this is beyond any criticism.

Why not record it properly and add the other guitar?

Hey , I saw Beefheart and his band at Preston guild Hall a few decades ago and they played this just like it was on the LP (lick my decals off). Great cover well done.
