  • Yeaaa ooooh hoooooh

  • @angel5654 Angel, new order are the band in the live performance hahaha, the video they stated in an interview was just something they couldn't be bothered doing so they got a bunch of kids to do it for them :) new order 101 haha

  • @IcyGamma Don't forget the fact that before this they were all in the Punk band Joy Division, and helped get gothic rock started. New Order was unfortunately started in the midst of tragedy, as it was started after the suicide of Ian Curtis.

  • Haha, yeah, confusing right. New Order started in the 80's, they returned in 1998 and finished again in 2007. This is their 2001 track. Wikipedia:

"The video, directed by Johan Renck (otherwise known as Stakka Bo) does not feature New Order; instead, it depicts a younger band miming to New Order's music and words."

  • @angel5654

    Think about it lol.

  • I dont get it...the video had young kids singing...but this guy is old!! wtf?

  • @deutscherjoel And, in the end, this is what the bass is all about. Hammering the rhythm and reinforcing the melody. Both Flea and Hook do their job very good, but very differently.

Out of them, of course, I'd pick Flea as being the better one, but I'd take Hook's melodic sense anytime.

  • @deutscherjoel You know, comparing Hook to Flea is like comparing a pianist to to a violinist... Because they play so differently, even though it's the same instrument.

I do agree, Hook's basslines are very easy even for a mediocre bass player, but it's not the difficulty which makes Hook such an acclaimed bassist ( like how it goes for Flea), it's that his basslines are very melodic and very rhythmic, sounding awesome even if they're minimalistic.

  • @burtr It's a simple single-note line, and not even rapidly played. Even by "bassist standards" it's incredibly basic. Compare him to Flea, or Tom Drummond, or Lou Barlow...all comtemporaries of him, and all vastly more proficient.

I stand by my original post. New Order was great, and Peter Hook played a vital role in that greatness...but to call him a "great bassist" is ridiculous at best and insulting at worst.
