The Spaniards were the first to bring wine to Chile in the 1600's. In 1883 the owner of what is now Casillero del Diablo brought his vines from Bordeaux. He made outstanding wines and stored them in his new private cellar. Soon he found this wines to be disappearing. He pinpointed the problem: The Villagers. They were stealing his wine. He knew they were superstitious so he created a story. He told everyone that the devil lived in his cellar. The trick worked. The story scared off the thieving villagers and the legend was born. This week we'll taste 4 wines from the Devil's Cellar, Casillero del Diablo. Chardonnay, Cabernet, Carmenere and the Privada label of Cabernet/Syrah blend.
