  • I dont think so. Bigger heli, easier to control.

  • Are you using a sim before hovering like this? If so how long have you been practicing before achieving this? Nice hovering

  • Nope. It was my first hover without sim training. Got only coaxial heli before. But bought sim (PhoenixRC) some times later. It helps alot. For me now it was not so nice ;-). Now hovering without bigger moves on sides.

  • get the training legs off. They will make the hovers easier.

  • Man it was more than half year ago :-). My Trex long time flying without training gears (anyway you have right about stability with and without train gear). Thx for your comment.

  • @Tjita1 I ended up buying a Blade 120 sr a few weeks ago. I am starting to get the hang of it. I can hover and do some manuvers. My crashes are starting to get less. So far I like it. And yes it is pretty cheap to fix, a whole new tail section is only about 15 dollars. So it's not to bad when I have to buy new parts. Also the heli looks very fragile but it has survived some pretty hard crashes.

  • @aqinthe If you got some R/C experience before you might be able to start with a 500. The question is not whether it is to advanced, but rather whether it is to expensive. Because you will crash at some point, and the parts for a bigger heli like this are much more expensive than that of a small one, say the fixed pitch Blade 120 SR. The blades for example, are about ten times more expensive on the 500, than on the 120 SR.

  • Is the Trex 500 too advanced for a first helicopter?

  • try a 0 75 75 75 75 for your normal throttle curve

  • @Arclightmarksman Would you reccomend ramping up the throttle curve to get higher headspeed, or more toth pinion?

  • Not enough headspeed. Training gear is a smart move. The 500 "CAN" be a docile heli in the hover. Take it slow, you'll figure it out.

  • nerd

  • just 2 let evryone no the pheonix flight simulater is coming 2 the us the beggining of october it is much more realistic than real flight as far as practicing 3d and alot cheaper cause a crash on the sim doesnt cost u anything except for the price u pay for it check it out on the tube.

  • learn to setup your heli. it drifts because of you, not because of a flawed design.
