Interestingly enough I picked up this 1942 Izhevsk 91/30 rifle at the gun show today. Allegedly it is a Vietnam bring back, but there is no way to prove that. No documentation. It is not import stamp, so there's a good chance it came in the country before import stamps were required. I bought it more for the price than the story. For a non-import stamped gun, $80 was a helluva deal.

Interesting wire sling hangar. Looks like a Spanish Civil War feature, but the gun itself is not the right year. SCW was 1936-1939. Stock appears to be the right time frame with the screw in sling slot escutcheons.

  • That looks like an unusall find, what do you think the pins are for?

  • @jimiz1 Pins probably are to reinforce the stock in some fashion. Could have been a crack, or partial crack. Or else the stocks could have demonstrated cracking in a particular area by the use of it. It's hard to say really, but most likely some kind of reinforcement.

  • a real good family friend has a m44 from when he was in vietnam. he told me that when they put the guns in a weapon cash they took the bolt out of them and moved to the next cash and put the bolt back in so most mosins that are vietnam bring backs dont have matching bolts.

  • my uncle brought a french mas 36 back from vietnam and it must have been treated like shit cause the stock was rotten black and you cant even see rifling in the barrel

  • Nice find.

  • @MarshalZhukov I agree i aslo have a '42 Izzy with a round and there is nothing wrong with it i just had to clean some of the cosmoline out of it so the bolt was easier to operaate. I did not have to do that with my tula hex. i picked both of them out at different times and both times they were around 150$

  • @lThePesticidel I see. It was a rather vague comment. Post away though :) They are all around great guns, especially for the price!

  • @lThePesticidel in my case, i meant, tula performs better in my case. sorry for unclarity.

  • @lThePesticidel How do you know Tula performs better? What makes a hex receiver have better performance qualities? What's wrong with Izhevsk rifles? Do you have any evidence to back this up?
