In this week's Winecast we chat with Greg Fries, director of winemaking for Desert Wind Winery in Prosser, Wash., and Duck Pond Cellars in Dundee, Ore. His father, Doug Fries, founded the family wine business in 1993 in the Willamette Valley. The operation now grown with 840 acres of plantings in both Washington and Oregon that include the Wahluke Slope, the Willamette Valley and new vines in the Umpqua Valley. Desert Wind is a destination property featuring a well-appointed tasting gallery, boutique lodging and a restaurant operated by award-winning chef Frank Magana. It is next door to the Walter Clore Wine & Culinary Center, which is under construction.
