i have a different version like that. Same set up presentaion so that the card is sticking out of the deck. My version:
Double lift in side the center of the deck (outjogged.)when you put the deck face down, puch one of the cards inside the deck then you are left with one out jogged card.

yea thats why this is better. no double lift. you can handle the card normally without having to worry about them separating. its kinda hard but its worth the practice.
