(Poetry) What Do Your Locs Mean to You?

My locs are symbolic of my life.
It symbolizes my growth as both a person and as a man.
Growing up I was never taught how to love myself.
I was never taught how to be strong. So...wearing locks has been a learning experience.
Lord knows the road has been rough...but still I'm enjoying the journey. Watching them grow
as the months go by &
I don't care if you look or stare or even dislike who I am, but I will ALWAYS BE TRUE TO ME.


WHAT MY LOCS SAY ABOUT ME

Culturally - that I am proud of my African Heritage.
My primary purpose in having locs is that I feel that African Americans
can be beautiful as God intended us to be with our natural styles.

Artistically - That I am a free spirit that loves to be different from
others. Once my locs are long enough Imma be sporting crazy styles
that will make people say "wow look at his hair." I can't wait to get
a mohawk.

Socially and Spiritually - I am happy with self and not willing to conform.
Not one for trends and not willing to change my appearance to fit what is
said to be an acceptable appearance for a young black man in America.
Spiritually I see my locs as a representation of each moment in my life
as each lock and each strand will represent a different part in my life
whether good or bad.

To cut them off would mean to cut away apart of my lifes journey.
