Mr. Speaker,

This morning a gallon of gas in my hometown of Iron River, Michigan costs $4.29. Unfortunately, most people expect to be plagued with even higher prices in coming weeks.

I believe we in Congress know there is no silver bullet that will lower prices at the pump. However, we do have a responsibility to craft policy and pass legislation that increases the supply of crude oil which will be produced here at home. As members of Congress, it is our duty to take these actions immediately to help lessen the pain for families in Michigan's First District and across the country.

Mr. Speaker, we need to find a long term solution to high fuel prices and I believe the full day markup we held in Committee last month was the first step. Passing this bill today is the next step.

  • US domestic oil production peaked in the mid 70s. But yeah, let's just pretend there is a magic puddle of oil somewhere that will solve all our energy problems.

  • What a dufis. Oil is not the answer.
