Can-Turtles Have Short Legs (1971 Single Track)

This was a single only A-Side released in 1971 to accompany the Tago Mago album. This track did not find it's way on to a long play format until the early 90's Cannibalism 2 compilation. This is an example of how the rather avant-garde Can could produce what could amount to a very good pop single. The B-Side of this single was a very edited version of the Tago Mago track "Halleluwah" (not the same edit as on the Cannibalism compilation from 1978, but shorter).

proves again that great bands need great clubhouses/hangouts/rehearsal space. i blieve this is their cologne castle set up. like the Band '69 digs or The Clash's in '79 this was a major music commune.

Actually this video has both of their hangouts/studio spaces. Most of it was in the castle, although some of the in studio footage (the scenes where the studio is soundproofed by old mattresses on the walls) was in their second hangout/studio in a converted cinema in Weilerswist that they moved to in late 1971.

This is just so so incredible to watch and many thanks for posting it...any idea who put the footage together? I read on the wonderful Ilovetotaldestruction blog that this was spliced from ""Free Concert" footage and from a WDR piece on the band from 1971" - whoever did the editing job did an amazing job, every image synchs in with the track to an incredible degree...without knowing it was done after the fact, I would have sworn this was a 'pop-promo' for Can's oblique stab at the charts!
