Beautiful, thanks, man! I can get a lot of that same tone out of my L-5 through a 66 Deluxe Reverb if the volume and reverb are set right and can be turned up. Depends on the venue. This really is the balls though. Keep 'em coming. -RM
Junior is one of the true originals no doubt. If you dig deep you can hear hints of Bill Jennings in his playing and having been lucky enough to play with him I know he was also a big fan of Mickey Baker and loved his guitar books. That 350 could be a 54 or 55 due to the neck pick up location. In the world of too many notes and over the top Blues/ Rock guitar wannabe 's Junior is breath of fresh air that I wish younger player would take notice off.
Watson invented the vintage guitar genre and has been playing archtop guitars and tweed Fender amps since you could buy both for a hundred dollars and be laughed out of any music store for doing so. He sounds like no other guitar player and no other guitar player sounds like him, try as they might. How brave and brilliant he was to create his very own style of guitar playing. BTW - This tune is not "Jr's Bounce" but it's a hellova tune so who cares. Thanks for uploading this video TwinCity.
I think that's around a '56 es-350, same guitar he used for some of Clarke's "Can't You Hear Me Callin'" LP. I saw him the first time at Archie's Bunker in '82 w/ the Flyers. Like all the great blues players, Junior, Schultz and Fats assimilated the same influences but developed their own signature styles. Thanks to his jazz studies, Alex knows theory and can play anything - with great taste and economy I might add.
