This is a night long timelapse of storms that moved across north of my location west to east on the night of 4-29/30-09 . Lots of lightning and several sprite events are visible. Annotations will point the location of sprites before they appear in the video. Encoded with DivX 6 Enjoy!

If the cirrus is thin enough then yes, they can be seen through them. Sprites are actually about as bright as the moon while they last. but they only last for a few milliseconds. I read that if they lasted longer. they're actually bright enough to be seen in daylight!
