Steampipe Alley. It was as fun as it looks! Mario was great. The Producers (Rick Derman, Caroloyn Joe) and Writer (Judy Katschke) were awesome to work with too! Starring: Mario Cantone!, Susan Adriensen ("Tinker Bell)", Judy Katschke ("Glenda"), Diane Jerome? (Tooth Fairy), et. al.

  • The late Ted Malle' AKA Don Pardonmeo was the

off camera announcer on Steampipe Alley!

  • ... and he was the nicest man. I interviewed him for a Broadcasting class in college.

  • Man, this is it right here! This is classic WWOR-Channel 9!!! Long before the network went ass corporate and joined up with UPN (now fruity-ass MyNetwork), this is what it was all about for me. 20 years back, Channel 9 meant the Metropolitans (the Mets) in the spring & summer, classic flicks, and watching that nut Mario on good ol' "Steampipe Alley." Yes, yes...getting up early on Sundays, eating Aunt Jemima (pancakes, that is! ;-))...Channel 9 in the good days. WE NEED IT BACK!!!

  • @143AC I think my family moved on the exact date that Steampipe Alley was cancelled. I forgot where we lived, but we lived really close to the Verizano Bridge (could see it from our house), and we moved to Rochester NY, and we stayed with grandparents for a while. I was channel surfing, and noticed that Steampipe Alley wasn't on. I was thinking for a long time that it was just due to a difference in cities.

I'm so glad we still had good kids shows for a while, but I really missed that show =(

  • this is like a second verison of Dragnet lol

  • ha! mario was dressed as peter pan on the view today.

    :]

  • I REMEMBER THIS

  • Dear 1952 Kid, WWOR TV Ch.9's"Steampipe Alley!'also featured games,

informational segments, reading viewers mail and interviews with guest performers, personalities and with the

kids in the studio audience(The clubhouse).

  • Dear 1952Kid, "Steampipe Alley!"was the last of NYC's really fun

kids tv shows..with an entertaining host/performer. With it's abrupt cancellation in April,1993..the Golden

era of NYC's fun kids tv shows finally came to an end.

  • I'm wondering, were there any weeks in "Steampipe Alley's" first year (1988-89) where the other famous "Voice of Channel 9," Phil Tonken, filled in, or was it Mr. Mallie all the way?

Somehow, it doesn't surprise me what you said; Mr. Mallie's delivery certainly counted as warm and friendly, as opposed to Mr. Tonken's more no-nonsense, businesslike style (though I've long been a fan of both announcers).

  • Last of the old style kids programs. It was kinda like every 1960's kids show rolled into one, It was a good kids show and kids liked it. Probably the last of the kids shows with a host, cartoons and skits.

  • If anybody has more Steampipe Alley clips,PLEASE post them.
