Here's the opening to the November 11, 1979 edition of "The National", which started with a mass evacuation of the city of Mississauga, Ontario, caused by a train derailment that had the potential to cause major disaster. This video was sourced from a "CBC News in Review" tape. Another video posted online (not by me) was sourced from an original broadcast of a CFL game. • I remember the Mississauga train derailment like it was yesterday. Man, time flies.

  • @knightschwartz its an odd video to show that but lol.............that city has changed completely since that

  • I want to move to Canada

  • I remember this time period too, because since May 1979 I was paying more attention to the news...Also in the news was the American hostage 'crises' in Iran and the Ayotolah/Shah of Iran ordeal.

  • my dad was not even a mile away from it whatching it with his little brother who was 4 at the time

  • George MacLean, I wish we still had professional readers like him.
