When young swimmers start to mature, and have a bit more muscle, it's time to start teaching them to catch more water. Wide-pull breaststroke is a good drill to help start the learning process.

  • no there is not a wide pull he is wrong it is not right people

  • @Redwan5607 - Please elaborate. I'm interested in hearing why you say that.

  • I have a question about how far i should come out of the water when im breathing. When i first started swimming i usually came out higher because i felt i needed to to get a good breath. but know that ive developed my stroke ive found i barley come out of the water enough to get my head out. I was just wondering if there is a certain height that is better for competitive swimming, and is staying low to the water bad?

  • @yoyamidoingthis - The height of the breath contains so many various aspects; how you pull, the lift of the chin, the draw of the spine, how you bring your hips forward, etc... If you're still developing the stroke, make sure you come up enough to get air... don't go high just for the sake of going high. Staying low isn't bad, as long as that's how the stroke was built. Staying low just to stay low isn't the goal either.

  • I have a question, if you have a stronger kick, should you use a wide or narrow pull, what about if your pull and kick are equally developed should you use a wide or narrow pull?

  • @UlSlUlRlNlAlMlE - It really is so much about figuring it out. What resistance do you create and can you produce more propulsion than the resistance. Too small, no propulsion, no resistance. Too big, large propulsion, large resistance. Arms / Legs / Body position. Breaststroke is a mathematic equation that is different for everyone and you'll have to experiment with various pieces to determine which is best. It's really up to you to decide.

  • @UlSlUlRlNlAlMlE the same thing happens to me man even in a 50m race the last 5 meters my arms feels rlly slow

  • @goswim098 basically a short pull is more powerful than a wide pull at least for me

  • This video makes a lot of sense to me. The really dificult part I think is the kick.

  • @Redwan5607 What? You get so much more power with a wide, quick pull. How do you think Kitajima goes so fast? Watch one of his swims from an underwater camera view, and watch his pull. Wide and fast. Narrow pulls won't get you anywhere...

  • he knows very well how to decreased resistance of water .

  • @goswim098 ...as the race goes on, my kick I feel is pretty natural and easy to duplicate even at fast speeds, the only problem I have with my kick though when I race is forgetting to press my hips upwards, because like you said breaststroke is really technical and complex, I'm usually thinking of a different section of the stroke.
