Favorite Fixx song no longer in print

A feeling like camphor rushing through my tubes
A cooling draught, a rare interlude
Drowning depression to admire and trust
Who can watch a man making dust to dust?
One legal dose of environment
The ballad of a playground swing
There's a lonely dog so misunderstood
He's left his chores to become someone's friend
Things are so enchanting
High on life
Then once again the flash of pines
Beck to this breathtaking view
Where the peaks are so high full of encouragement
And the paints of the gods colour code
Things are so enchanting
High on life
Things are where they can't be high on life
So I'm thinking about my favourite dream
An adventure not out of bounds
It dries my eyes to know mother earth hears
I'm invisible to blue hounds
It pleases me to have a mind on the run
When the body is fixed tied in shoes
What expression is left to fulfil the gap
Just a nod will suffice where you are?
Things are so enchanting high on life

  • I'm a Fixx fan - how come I'm not familiar with this album? Guess I have some homework...

  • @Ztinkyy Walkabout was released in 1986. I remember only a couple of songs from the album that made any significant airplay-- "Built for the Future" and "Secret Separation. Though it's my favorite, it apparently did not garner the degree of commercial success of The Fixx's earler albums, and was dropped from MCA's catalog by the mid to late-90's. I was fortunate enough to find a new CD about five years ago through a rare CD seller through Amazon.com. Give it a try.

  • @extantia Awesomeness. Are you going to any of the shows this summer?

  • @Ztinkyy Don't know if they're heading to my part of the States. Would like to see them though.

  • @Ztinkyy I've already uploaded three other songs from the album- I'll share them with you.

  • this is one of my favorite tunes...love the keyboard and drums... in this..and of COURSE cy's vocals

  • Glad you enjoyed it. I like all aspects of the song as they come together as a whole, but the fretless bass line is what really grabbed me. Also if you listen carefully you can hear Jamie hitting harmonics and bending them with his vibrato bar in the right channel.

  • Incredible release. The Fixx's best. Probably why it didn't do as well. Genius by a great band.

  • Took this album and Frankie's "Liverpool to Sri Lanka. Memories of sunset on the sea-wall on the south-coast -sipping a beer and hearing the surf mixed with this track. Awesome. Things are where they can't be.

  • One of the greatest half known bands on earth-Atmoshphere plus!!

  • It's a good song with a good title as well. I love the smell of camphor. Camphor has got some special properties. Those pictures suit the music. I like that. Thank-you for sending me this link.

  • one of my fav. all time Fixx songs!! Listened to this over and over on a trip through the Canadian pines once. Was perfect.

  • @Ztinkyy I have all of their albums from up to Elemental. Walkabout is the album this song came from and though it wasn't as commercially successful as the the albums before it, there wasn't one bad song on the entire album and I dare they they were at their creative peak with this one.

  • Let the masses have Clapton and "Cocaine." I'll take the Fixx and "Camphor."

  • Bought Walkabout on cassette in '86 and never left my walkman for a month. My son just pulled his MP3 earplugs and asked what a walkman was. I'm old.

  • @n8tureboy Exactly!
